At the risk of sounding like a total goodie -goodie, I’ve always been drawn to people and crave making some sort of significant difference. It’s funny how so many of my interests seem to overlap. I love to create events.. it makes me so happy to hear people say “Reb, we are having the best time!” It’s even better if you can organise a function that not only everyone enjoys but it can make a difference to other peoples lives. This is where Events and Philanthropy can go hand in hand and to be honest with you, what a great outcome!!
My mum and I started an organic clothing label called Mulli and Boo. We have an equal love for fashion but are big on quality. After reading an article on organic fibres verses traditional fabric, we couldn’t believe what we had read. We felt it was almost our duty to create a range of trans seasonal organic basics with an emphasis on quality. I wont lie to you…. it was a massive task. We launched Mulli and Boo online and were stocking boutiques locally. I was getting more and more involved in Interior Design projects and yet there was this constant conversation about how Mulli and Boo could make a greater impact. How can we accomplish more in a day? I want to do it all!! We attempted to get involved in various fundraisers but I just wasn’t feeling like our time or our commitment to the greater good was getting much traction.
I was recently asked to join the events committee at the St John’s Crisis Centre located in Surfers Paradise. Together with other liked minded locals, we created the event of all events!! The staff at St Johns and my committee members will always have a place in my heart. Their dedication is tireless and I have been so humbled to see the difference they are making to so many peoples lives. It’s important that we all understand, some people have just had the worst luck and furthermore were not surrounded with the support group we, I, can easily take for granted. Through my time at St Johns, Mulli and Boo have made the decision to do what we set out to do in the first place and that’s create random acts of kindness. Mulli and Boo is dedicated to providing women with a brand new quality garment ”Just Because.” We encourage children or anyone to reach out to us at us@mulliandboo.com.au and tell us who you think deserves a small unexpected gift.
Along with the St John’s Crisis Centre I am also very passionate about a good friend Perry Cross and his mission to find a cure for paralysis. Perry is a remarkable human and one that I am proud to call my friend.
I urge you to show you support to both the St Johns Crisis Centre and The Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation.
