Think Beyond Paint…There’s a whole world out there of amazing textiles!

We can look at a wall and think, white, off white or maybe even.. lets be bold and paint it a feature colour! There is a whole world out there of different textures though!! I have recently been involved in a design project and had an absolute ball or shall I say “wall” with it!! If I could enter an emoji in here I would have that little smiley face that gives you a wink. Lol.

I used recycled timber cladding as a feature in the dining room and had a custom dining table to match. Personally, I liked the diversity of the timber but it really is up to you how “rugged” you want to go. Other things you need to consider is, horizontal or vertical, width of timber and what screws or nails you want to use and are you trying to make a feature of these???

Timber Cladding

Looking for something to make a white wall a little more interesting? Perhaps adding some dimension to it?

I used a very basic builders cladding that can be used both externally or internally. This product comes in 3 varieties but I chose the smooth surface with the wider panels. Traditionally, they usually install this vertically but I wanted it to run horizontally. I think at the time I thought it might look more like a fence if it was to run vertically. This has been used in all the bedrooms and was painted the same colour as the walls of the bedrooms. I wasn’t trying to make a really large statement as I knew I wanted artwork on the walls and I didn’t want it to compete. I just wanted to break up the monotony of the white walls and give it a bit of an edge.  This product can be purchased from James Hardie and is Stria Cladding.

The brick wall! I love this! I decided to go with a brick feature wall in all the bathrooms. It gives it a bit of an industrial feel. It’s usually quite a talking point. They are real bricks but they have been sliced into thinner pieces and work with a panel system. With really glam tiles and accessories it looks hot! The main thing to consider is what colour grout you want to use and how you would like that to look. My tiler was just about finished and I came in and stuck my hand in all the grout and smudged it everywhere. I didn’t want it to look perfect. That is personal choice though.
